What to Expect During Neck Lift Recovery

Smiling mature woman with beautiful neck after neck lift If you’re considering a neck lift to rejuvenate your look, you’re probably wondering what recovery really looks and feels like. At Luxurgery in New York City, directly across from Central Park, Dr. Sachin M. Shridharani takes great care to walk each patient through what to expect after surgery.

Dr. Shridharani is a board-certified plastic surgeon with an international reputation for innovation and precision. Recovery is an important part of the process, and he’ll explain everything in your consultation so you know what’s ahead of you.

The First Few Days After a Neck Lift

Right after your procedure, some swelling, tightness, and bruising are normal. Most people feel well enough to move around at home within a day or two.

We’ll ask you to keep your head elevated and avoid turning your neck too much. Cold compresses and prescribed medication can help keep you comfortable.

One to Three Weeks Post-Surgery

By the end of the first week, you may see the swelling starting to improve. If your sutures aren’t dissolvable, they’ll usually be removed around days seven to 10.

Many patients feel ready to return to work or resume light activities within two to three weeks, especially if they can ease back into their routines. Bruising continues to fade during this time, and your neck starts to look more refined.

After the First Month

Most of the visible signs of surgery have resolved by week four. You’ll still need to avoid strenuous activity, but most people feel like themselves again.

This is usually the point when the results become more noticeable, and you can get back to your regular routines.

Tips for a Smooth Recovery

Small habits can make a big impact on how you heal. To support your recovery and protect your results:

  • Sleep with your head elevated
  • Avoid sun exposure
  • Follow your surgeon’s aftercare instructions
  • Stay hydrated and eat nourishing foods
  • Skip strenuous activity until you’re cleared
